Open Question: Isn't this mind blowing..... (had to share this)?

Here is just a tiny tiny tiny tiny little area of the Universe, it was the single most important image ever taken, and it was taken by the Hubble Telescope that is orbiting our Planet. What you see in the picture are not stars, they are galaxies. Every smear, smudge, dot is an entire galaxy......... http://harleyk.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/HubbleDeepFieldL.jpg That picture blows my mind everytime. I can stare at that picture for hours! lol, ok i probably cant as i'll get bored after 10mins. Anyways, your thoughts?p.s- the images in the pic are as far as 13billion Light years away!!! more

Resolved Question: What planet or star is this?

After the sun sets I can see a very bright star to the east/southeast. People have told me it's venus or the star sirius, but i don't know. It stays in-formation the stars too. I looked at it with my telescope and it is also pretty big compared to the other stars.. so it is pretty close considering i only have a amateur telescope. I live in Nova scotia, Canada and it is september 2010, if that helps, Thanks! P.S. I can see it almost all night long in the sky.Yes i did..but i don't believe you...i need prove! muhahaha :) more

Open Question: I have a Celestron Powerseeker 80 series telescope and I'm wondering what I should be able to see...?

It came with a 20mm lens and a 4mm lens and I'm wondering what I should be able to see CLEARLY with it. I can get stars clear with the 20mm lens but they're not really any closer than looking with the naked eye, only a bit more crisp of an image. If I add the barlow lens to that it magnifies it, but it's just a big blurry bright spot. Is that how it should be? And forget about the 4mm lens, it's almost impossible to even find anything with it. Any help I'd appreciate it. Here's a link of the telescope I have..... http://www.celestron.com/c3/product.php?CatID=5&ProdID=499I am a beginner, that's why I asked! I've done a lot of reading, apparently reading the wrong stuff, but a lot of it tells you the functions of things just not "how" they function. Thanks for the info, and I'll work on the "lens" thing. more

Open Question: Can i mount an eight inch reflector tube on an equatorial mount that holds my six inch reflector.?

I have had a six inch newtonian telescope for a few years now and would like to upgrade to a larger mirror/tube. to save money i thought about just buying a new tube either 8" or 10" and mounting it to my original mount (the one that came with my six inch) is this a normal thig to do and is it possible? i understand that i would need to add more weights to compensate for the larger telescope. but am i going to run into alot more problems other than this??hey thanks for the answers. actually the mount is really sturdy! compared to the newer ones i've seen around these days. when i say a few years i mean 12 years! and i bought it second hand. so it could be over 20 years old for all i know. back when things were built to last! not like now days where everything is just throw away and get a new one! well im going to go ahead and get a new tube and try it ! but with caution . i have never bothered aligning the mount anyway. so RA and dec don't really concern me. if i see that all is not well i suppose i will have to shell out for the proper mount. which will probably cost me more in the long run. But hey thats what you get for being a tight scrooge! thanks guys. more

Resolved Question: Found UK Eye Piece sellers, now just need one more piece of advice! Thank you soooooo much!?

Okay, so I've finally found a UK seller to has one of the eye pieces I want. I was advised this eye piece: GSO 30mm Super-View - which was only available in the USA. However, found it in the UK under a different name. "GSO 30mm Revelation 2" eyepiece" - at £49.99 http://www.scopesnskies.com/prod/eyepieces/GSO/revelation/plossl-eyepieces/plossl-eyepiece.html However, I cannot find the Orion Edge-On Planetary 6mm. So, my question to you is, which of the following is better for me to use in comparison to the Orion. http://www.scopesnskies.com/prod/Sky-Watcher/%20Ultrawide/%20Eyepieces.html Or http://www.scopesnskies.com/prod/TMB/6mm-planetary.html I believe these focal lengths are correct for best planetary viewing and of nebulae, etc. I have an 8 Inch Skywatcher Dobsonian Telescope, and have the two standard eyepieces - "Super 25 - wide angle, long eye relief" and a "Super 10 mm". **I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO 'GeoffG' FOR ALL HIS HELP!** Thank you. more

Open Question: Question to EARTH MAN?

You stated: "How exactly would you prove, just by looking at it from Earth, that the Milky Way is a galaxy like others we can see through telescopes?" You could still use observations and math to prove what it is even if there were not other galaxies to observe and calculate. The same was true about the Earth being spherical wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy before Magellan. Hey, that's right, even before we knew there were other galaxies we new the Milky Way was a galaxy. How about that? I wonder how they discovered that knowledge? more

Open Question: Reposting this question because people are telling my USA websites... Where can I get these Telescope Lenses?

I must stress, I need to buy these from the UK - as Shipping from the USA is too expensive! Open Question: Does the bullet button make the AR-15 CA legal even with the "evil features"?

I am interested in possibly buying an AR-15 soon, but I know there is a fine line between what's legal and what's not, and I don't want to get screwed later down the line for having one. I know anything with a detachable magazine with "evil features" like a pistol grip or telescoping stock is illegal, but with the addition of a bullet button, which would make the magazine fixed unless you specifically depress that button, would an AR-15 with those features be legal? I dont want to have to turn it into something that looks weird and is impractical to hold just to get rid of the evil features. Also, what about the Ruger Mini-14 with an ATI stock (the stock has a pistol grip). It has a detachable mag, but isn't the AR-15 platform. If I bought this over the AR-15 would I still have to make modifications to it? I know the ban in 2004 was by make and model number, so does anyone know any brands and models that are CA legal in 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington? I wanted to get a Ruger 10/22, but it just seems too impractical to have it for more than fun shooting. Would the addition of a tapco or ATI stock to the 10/22 also turn it into a gun with "evil features" and therefore be illegal in CA? more

Open Question: Would you recommend the Orion Expanse 6mm eyepiece?

http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~product_id=08920/~pcategory=orion_accessories/~category_id=eyepieces I have a four inch newtonian reflector I have been looking for a good eyepiece which is not more than $75 and magnifies a bit more than 40x. I want it to be able to show the bands of jupiter with excellence and show deep sky objects and the moon with more detail and better. After reading some, I found the Orion expanse eyepieces, sirius plossl, and highlight plossl, all about the same price range. I found that the expanse eyepiece was the one that looked the best. However I am spectical now after reading a few reviews on it, that it causes ghostly images near bright objects (ghosting) and other things. If this is not a good eyepiece, are there others which are under $75 which fit this scope? more

Open Question: what was the name of this vacuum cleaner?

Open Question: Is it theoretically possible to look at the Earth's past using astronomy?

Open Question: Assuming im from a highly advance civilization 65 million light years away from earth..... please answer ^__^?

when we look at the stars we are not really seeing the actual star right? we are only seeing the light that left the star, lets say there is a star called "YU", and lets assume STAR YU is about 1million light years aways from earth. when we look at Star yu in sky we are only seeing the light that left about 1million years ago. am i right? so it is possible that star yu is further or deeper in the universe or it maybe actually dead. SO WHAT IF WE DO IT IN REVERSE...... how about if im from a highly advance civilization about 65million light years away from the Earth, and we also have this super advance telescope that can see the surface of any astronomical body and then look at planet Earth using this telescope. will I be able to see dinosaurs in earth? dinosaurs existed about 65 million years ago btw i hope you guys really understand what im trying to tell you. im sorry my english is not that good its not my main language and im only turning 12 in 2 months. so please no harsh comments. thank you <link>http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Arjwnqe.za4iOt5ztQdl9c69DH1G;_ylv=3?qid=20100831204139AArucV5 i asked this 3 days ago. ikurwahs answer got me confused so i need reconfirmation. also, my account got deleted by Y! Seriously. It's a giant ugly gray ball of basalt that ruins my view of the night sky.
