Resolved Question: Are networks afraid to do include PSAs after children's cartoons?
Back in the day a lot of popular children's cartoons and comics did public service announcement. He-Man used to warn kids not to join gangs, and to always wear bicycle helmets, Superman used to warn kids not to start smoking (There was even a villain that used to try to encourage kids to smoke that superman used to beat up on) and there were entire episodes of shows like C.O.P.S about the dangers of taking drugs or sniffing glue. There was even an episode of Saved by the Bell where one of the characters took a hand gun to school as part of a PSA warning against guns and gangs. But this is almost unheard of these days. You rarely get any children shows/cartoons with any real messages, and I can't even remember the last time that there was an actual public service announcement short as part of a children's show. Are the networks afraid to critisize kids for doing bad things, or to tell them the difference between right and wrong? Why isn't Hannah Montana telling kids not to get into cars with strangers, or drink under age? Why isn't Zach Efron telling kids to stay in school, and not to shop lift? Are they afraid that they're going to get sued or something? The closest that you get to this these days is the Simpsons and South Park, but they aren't really children's shows. Especially not South Park. moreResolved Question: What kind of bicycle should i buy?

I'm looking for a used truck for small jobs around an urban neighborhood. Mostly hauling trash and yard waste, carrying lumber and furniture, and the like. I'm not doing any farm work or heavy towing, but the vehicle may see a gravel road every now and again. I live so close to my job that I usually bicycle commute, so the truck isn't going to see many miles, and very little if any interstate highway travel. I don't need a crew cab or any bells and whistles, but I do have a young son that's using a booster seat, so I need a three-point harness. I am interested in 1971-72 Chevy trucks because I love the classic styling and that's about as old as you can go and still get front disc brakes. They only have lap belts though - so I'd need to retrofit a modern seatbelt assembly. I used to have an old Volvo wagon, and I was starting to have to replace major vehicle systems, which were very expensive from my local Volvo specialist. Would finding replacement parts for an old Chevy be similarly expensive? Lots of these old trucks have been overhauled once or twice by now, and I live in the South where there isn't much rust and many of the old timers around here really babied their vehicles. I'm interested in the 2005 Tacos also because of their styling, and the decent mpg I can get from a manual 4 cyl reg. cab. The newer trucks also have good seat belts and airbags, so I'd feel safer driving around with my son. I also imagine a newer truck to be more reliable, to have lower operating costs and less expensive repairs, but I'm just not sure comparing it to a non-computerized, non-plastic workhorse like an old Chevy with a new engine... So, you see - I have a dilemma - please talk me into or out of an old Chevy or a newer Toyota and thanks! moreResolved Question: 1972 Chevy C10 or 2005+ Toyota Tacoma?

I would like to take a self-supported bicycle tour with my son, and possibly one of his friends. I did the Transamerica trail about 20 years ago, so am not worried about preparing for such a trip. But where to go? 6 weeks isn't enough to do a quality coast-to-coast. I'm not young, anymore. Besides, a big part of the tour is stopping in small towns and visiting with the locals. Maybe a half of a coast-to-coast trail? Or something in Canada? Or north-south? I've never spent significant time in the south, and that could be different. I've never seen the Black Hills. We've been to Yellowstone before, but my son was a little boy at the time, and it would be different on bike. It would be good to go through a variety of climates and terrains. This is a collection of peoples wisdom perhaps?
My plan in life is given below. Now i am looking for your guys's plans for your lives. And how you live your lives. ================================================== If you where to look at life from my perspective, this is what you would think. ``````````````````````````````````````… I follow 4 rules as long as i live. 1. improve physically 2. improve mentally 3. improve spiritually 4. be kind, respecfull. Now let's take a look at 1. What does physical include? =improving your body in every way =learn how to fight =improve accuracy with, guns, arrows, throwing stars, daggers, ect. =improve speed, running, bicycle, ect. =improve fighting skills =improve strength, weight lifting, and many other techniques, chinese/japanese culture has alot of old ways of improving certain aspects of yourself physically, such as dipping your hands in a stabbing motion into white rice, which thus hardens your skin. =hygiene, keeping yourself clean, clean clothes, fresh healthy skin. =keeping yourself healthy, eating the healthiest combination of foods/drinks and cardio exersize to top that off. Getting rid of any abnormalities or conditions your body has, such as tumor, skin desease, acne, you name it, you cure it. =improve your balance =improve your endurance, (fighting longer, running longer, ect) = if you need more examples, send me an email Lets take a look at number 2. What does improving mentaly include? =read books of many different genres and topics, fiction or non-fiction, books will always make you happy. But not all books are simply their to be a good read, some will acually try to teach you things and hold very valuable information, but it's important to read books just for fun also, and you will learn why after you read a couple good ones that you enjoy. =mathematic skills =vocabulary/reading skills =learn different languages, french, spanish, english, piglatin, ect. =learn wisdom, different then knowledge, hard to pickup but easy to comprehend. =learn how to read people, body language, eye contact, speech. =improve your personality (if you are greedy, exchange that with generosity. If you are mean, exhange that with kindness. If you are full of pride, exchange that with humbleness. ect ect ect. If there is a good quality of your personality, KEEP IT) =learn about carpentry =learn how to weld =learn how to biuld boats =learn how to biuld a house =learn how to landscape =learn how to biuld planes =learn how to work and fix cars (i'd like to add quickly that some of these things will also improve your body physically while mentaly as well.) =learn how to grow crops, plants, ect. =learn how to help other people with their problems =learning about other cultures =learn about the begining and end of this world. =learn about governments, how they operate, learn about how the world around you works. (i can help you with this if you wish) =Sorry i can't think of more at this moment =if you need more examples send me an email. Lets take a look at number 3. What does improving spiritually include? =learning about other cultures =learning about other religions, christian, catholic, islam, greek gods, latin gods, chinese religion, south american religions, indian religions, ect ect. =learning about the begining of earth =learning about the end of earth =observing people around you =if you work on other parts of this life-style (1. 2. .4) Then you will unknowingly and unconciously improve spiritualy. Go ride a bike, and you might improve spiritualy, or you might not. =if you want more insight into this send me an email. Lets take a look at number 4 You should try to be kind, respectfull and humble to those you meet. It will make them like you and enjoy talking to you more. You will have an easier time talking to them from the start. You will only help yourself by being so. This all falls under improving mentally. Your personality falls under the catagory "mental". Because it's in your mind. Lets say you are funny, obnoxious, loud, generous, //respecfull// (scratch that, you can't be respectfull if you are loud and obnoxious) So that is your old personality. Now lets take a look at your new personality. You keep funnyness, you keep generous, but now you must exchange your bad personality traits for good ones. You cannot simply take something away, you must also ADD something good to takes its place, so there is not a hole. Exchange obnoxious for kindness, exchange loud for courteous. Ect ect. moreResolved Question: Is there anything to gain from my outlook on life, or do you one of you have a superior game plan?

Ect ect. I looked out of the window in the cabin and there it was - an iceberg right by the boat. Within seconds I was on deck, and the yacht and I passed within 15-20 metres of the berg, actually sailing through the white water next to it. All I could think of was what would have happened it I had hit it. The radar was alarmed, but as is sometimes the case, the berg was invisible to radar, even when I was right next to it. Where did you get such a nice bike?" The second nerd replied, "Well, yesterday I was walking home, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up to me on this bike. She threw the bike to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, 'Take what you want!'" The second nerd nodded approvingly, "Good choice. The clothes probably wouldn't have fit." - - - - Q. Do you know what is the hardest part of learning to ride a bike? A. The pavement.- - - Two nerds are riding along on a tandem, when suddenly, the one on the front slams on the brakes, gets off and starts letting air out of the tires. The one on the back says: "HEY! What are you doing that for!?" The first nerd says, "My seat was too high and was hurting my butt. I wanted to lower it a bit." So the one in the back has had enought. He jumps off, loosens his own seat and spins it round to face the other direction. Now it's the first guy's turn to wonder what's going on. "What are you doing?" he asks his friend. "Look mate," says the rider in the back, "if you're going to do stupid stuff like that, I'm going home!!" - Enjoy the weekend, foks! moreResolved Question: NW Washington State drivers. MY bf's car took a dirt nap recently and so i am having to drive him to his job working on the light rail near South Seattle every morning at 5-6AM. The stupidest crap happened this morning, happens every morning, but this morning was especially retarted. Things were so-so untill we get off the free way. And within the 1 mile drive to the job site an SUV nearly ran me off the road, so i let him pass and then he wrecked his SUV into the median wall. A person on a bicycle swerved right out in front of me and i barely had time to stop, so i honked at him and he yells F YOU as loud as he could. <ok that part was funny> but still stressful. And then when we reached the point to turn off to the job site, and i turned on blinker to pull in the little truck behind me pulled in as well thinking that he was following me to the freaking onramp to 1-5, 405. What is going on here? Is it the rain we got this morning? People should be used to it raining in seattle by now. moreResolved Question: OK Northerners us Southerners are taking back the sun ...... any objections?
Yes it's your longest day today you northern hemisphere people , so from now on the sun is heading back south... One other thing I can now tell you is that in future you will be having very short summers up there. Using parts off old bicycles that we found at the town dump, the guy next door and I have made a machine consisting of various levers and pulleys that will enable us to control the tilt of the earths axis and so therefore control the length of summer and winter. We have decided that we want longer summers down here in the south and I am sorry guys but that means this is your last good summer. Enjoy it while you can................ moreResolved Question: can some one help revise my paragraph?
Nameer Ascandar Dr. Sako English 98 September 17, 2006 Ruth McBride Jordan Ruth McBride is one of the most important characters in the Color of Water, she is know for her toughness but at the same time known for her great big heart, her altruistic and the love for her children. “When I was fourteen years old my mother picked up two hobbies riding the bicycle and playing the piano.” (5) First of all, Ruth McBride lived a very tough life raising eleven children on her own without her husband, and also being the only white woman in the neighborhood with black children and still kept her attribute. Second of all, she went through lots of racism and experienced the importance of being black. “The Jewish school didn’t really count with the white folks, so I went to the white school, at Thomas Jefferson Elementary”. (80) With all the discrimination she persevered and did what was important to her, which was going to work, going to school, and practice her religion which was a conventional thing for her. Ruth’s success in life and in developing a good family came from her belief in her self, her rehabilitation, and braveness. Ruth lost the freedom that she had in the south like getting with her own people; she worked a tough job and was paid low. She had no choice but to communicate with black people and basically lived the life of a black woman which was very hard for her especially back then. Ruth had lots of difficulties in her life even with her father. “I was afraid of tateh and had no love for him at all. I dreaded him and relieved anytime he left the house” (42) her father was a racist and didn’t like black people, but she didn’t agree with him and was always a part of black party. She lost her belief in white people and became interested in black people because she found that white people were all about racism and hate. Ruth’s success wasn’t something easy to do for a regular woman, therefore she is known as a very tough person and a big heart towards her children. moreResolved Question: Is it a sign of poverty or a personal choice to live barefoot?
I’m from Germany but I’m living in India – it’s almost six years now that I’ve left Europe for good – and I’m used to a life on bare soles: I haven’t worn shoes since December 2000 (with a few exceptions!) and I don’t think I’ll EVER imprison my feet again! INDIA – it still means: Bare feet EVERYWHERE, especially in rural areas and the South, but also in cities and parts of the North! And I don’t think that will change within a lifetime! Half of the people in my neighbourhood (a typical “mixed area” with modern houses and traditional enclaves side-by-side) are barefoot throughout the year! Dusty bare feet, immune to the heat of summer, to sharp gravel and other hazards are a common sight, so common that you’ll hardly notice them anymore after a month or so. It’s true: I’m still getting attention for my lack of footwear, but not because I’m barefoot but because I’m a FOREIGNER (“ferengi”) who is barefoot! And reactions are almost always positive… I don’t think my Indian neighbours are walking barefoot ‘cause they can’t AFFORD shoes: Flip flops are available for less than 1 Euro, and if those 50 Rupees would really matter for them - well, in that case you wouldn’t see people riding their bicycle barefoot! But there are many… My impression: It’s not about poverty, it’s their CHOICE to live without shoes – these people feel it’s UNNECESSARY to imprison their feet! Is there anyone from India, from Asia reading this? Or from any other corner of our world where kids grow up barefoot and don’t have to surrender to the pressure of a shod majority once they’re adults? Any expat who’s lucky enough to live in a place like India, a place where bare feet are still normality? What do you think: Is it a sign of poverty or a personal choice to live barefoot? more
